Thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi A one-time authentic documentation of Gandhiji’s available writings was carried out meticulously, and conscientiously under the CWMG project of the Government of India in 1956………………………
I am in the world feeling my way to light “amid the encircling gloom.”
I am a humble but very earnest seeker after truth.
He is lost who is possessed by carnal desire.
I claim to be a simple individual liable to err like any other fellow mortal. I own, however,
that I have humility enough in me to confess my errors and to retrace my steps.
It is not possible to conceive gods inhabiting a land which is made hideous by the smoke and
din of mill chimneys and factories and whose roadways are traversed by rushing engines dragging
numerous cars crowded with men mostly who know not what they are after.
God cannot be realized through the intellect. Intellect can lead one to a certain extent and no
further. It is a matter of faith and experience derived from that faith.
Man is supposed to be the maker of his destiny. It is only partly true. He can make his
destiny, only in so far as he is allowed by the Great Power.
It may be possible to gild pure gold, but who can make his mother more beautiful?
We may stumble and fall, but shall rise again; it should be enough if we did not run away from
the battle.
No cutting off of heads becomes necessary in the presence of a living Demos.
The Indian government has bought thousands of letters, papers and photographs which shed light on the life of independence hero Mahatma Gandhi. India paid around 60 million rupees or $1.1 million for the papers, which cover Gandhi’s time in South Africa, his return to India and his contentious relationship with his family reported Reuters. The Indian leader began his civil rights work and philosophy of non-violent resistance during his 20-year sojourn in the African country. Here’s a peek-a-boo on Baapu’s thoughts:
1. Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.
2. Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.
3. I have so much to accomplish today that I must meditate for two hours instead of one.
4. The future depends on what we do in the present. El futuro depende de lo que hagamos en el presente .
5. First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win.
6. A ‘no’ uttered from the deepest conviction is better than a ‘yes’ merely uttered to please, or worse, to avoid trouble.
7.
You may never know what results come of your actions, but if you do nothing, there will be no results.
8. Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever
9. An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.
10. You should be the change that you want to see in the world.
11. Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.
12. The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others
13. I suppose leadership at one time meant muscles; but today it means getting along with people.
14. Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
15.The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be measured by the way in which its animals are treated.
16. Nobody can hurt me without my permission.
17. You can’t shake hands with a clenched fist.
18. The more efficient a force is, the more silent and the more subtle it is.
19. The greatness of humanity is not in being human, but in being humane.
20. Sacrifice that causes pain is no sacrifice at all. True sacrifice is joy – giving and uplifting.
