The uterus is a hollow, pear-shaped organ located in a woman’s lower abdomen, between the bladder and the rectum. It is the hollow, muscular organ where a fetus develops during pregnancy. In non-pregnant women, the uterus is about 3 inches long and 2 inches wide. The uterus is made up of two layers of tissue: the endometrium, which is the inner lining; and the myometrium, which is the outer layer of muscle.
