Commensalism is a type of symbiotic relationship in which one organism (the commensal) benefits from the other organism (the host), but the host is not affected either positively or negatively. Examples of commensalism include phoresy, in which a small organism hitchhikes on a larger one, and the relationship between barnacles and whales, in which the barnacles attach to the whales and benefit from being transported, but the whales are not affected.
