A Schwann cell is a type of neurological cell that is responsible for the insulation of the axons of peripheral nerves in the body. It is a type of glial cell that forms the myelin sheath around axons in the peripheral nervous system, which helps to speed up the conduction of signals between neurons. Schwann cells are also involved in the repair and regeneration of injured axons.
