Xerophthalmea – സെറോഫ്താൽമിയ

Xerophthalmea is a term used to describe a condition in which the eyes appear dry, due to decreased tear production. It is often caused by diseases such as Sjogren’s Syndrome , or by the side effects of certain medications. Symptoms of xerophthalmea include red, itchy eyes, a burning sensation, and a feeling of having something in the eyes. Treatment can include artificial tear drops, and more severe cases may be treated with steroids or immunosuppressant drugs.
