BIOGRAPHY OF BEETHOVEN

INTRODUCTION

  • Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer and pianist.
  •  He is one of the most famous and influential composers of all time.
  •  His music forms a bridge between the Classical and Romantic generation.
  • His best-known compositions include “9 symphonies, 5 piano concertos, 1 violin concerto, 32 piano sonatas, 16 string quartets, his great Mass the Missa solemnis, and one opera, Fidelio”.

A WALK THROUGH HIS LIFE

  • Beethoven was born in Bonn,Germany on December 16,1770.
  • His Father “Johann van Beethoven” was a court musician and his Mother “Maria Magdalena Keverich” was a singer.
  • His first music teacher was his father.
  • At the age of four,He began to study piano.
  • In 1781, Beethoven began his  music studies with his most important teacher in Bonn, “Christian Gottlob Neefe”.
  • He then moved to Vienna to study composition with Joseph Haydn.
  •  He soon started performing in public events.
  •  After his return to Bonn, He settled in Vienna where He remained for the rest of his life.
  • By his early twenties, He had established himself as an important composer in Vienna, the musical center of Europe.
  • In 1798, Beethoven started to suffer from a strange illness.It was later detected as lead poisoning.
  • In 1800,His work “Symphony”  gathered a lot of  public attention.
  • His career reached its peak in the years 1803–1812, when he composed some of his most famous works, including the Symphony No. 3 (Eroica), the Symphony No. 5(Symphony of Fate) and Symphony No. 6 (Pastoral), the Kreutzer Sonata for violin and piano and the opera Fidelio.
  • He gradually became deaf in his late twenties.
  • In 1814,He became completely deaf.
  • Despite this,He continued to compose and conduct.
  • In 1824,His Ninth Symphony  with its famous “Ode to Joy” was premiered in Vienna.
  • He  also composed sone of his greatest work “Missa Solemnis” when He was completely deaf.
  • He continued to write works in a variety of categories including symphonies, concertos, sonatas and string quartets.
  • He also wrote music for piano,choir and solo instruments.
  • He continued composing until the end of his life.
  • He died on March 26, 1827  at the age of 56 in Vienna, Austria..
  •  He was buried in the city of Vienna  and his funeral was attended by thousands.
  • His compositions are considered some of the most important works of classical music in history.
