CELEBRATIONS
- Pongal is celebrated for four days.
- DAY 1- Poki Pongal,this is Makarasankrama day.
DAY 2 -Taipongal or Suryapongal
DAY 3 – Mattu Pongal
DAY 4 – Kanna Pongal
POKI PONGAL
- Unreliable household waste and old things are thrown away and burnt.
- Poki Pongal means that everything is going away.
- It is also Known as Bogi Pongal.
THAI PONGAL OR SOORYA PONGAL
- Rice is cooked in milk in a pot outside the house by a stove.
- Turmeric plant will be tied in the pot.
- Rice, sugarcane, fruits and coconuts are offered to the Sun(Soorya Bhagavan).
- After the Purpose, the utensils used for this purpose will be thrown away.
MATTU PONGAL
- Matupongal is for Cattle.
- This festival is a perfect representation of the best Agricultural culture that existed in India.
- A festival for the cattles who struggle with man.
- On that day cows are bathed with oil and turmeric and given good food.
- Their body is covered with turmeric and saffron.
- Chain and small bells are tied around their necks.
- The horns are painted with various colors.
- The decorated cows are then moved through the streets accompanied by musical instruments.
KANNA PONGAL
- The word is applied in the sense of the day to see.
- This is the day to visit relatives and friends.
- On that day, it is important to serve rice and curd on banana leaves to animals and birds.
- The four-day Pongal celebrations will conclude on this day.
