Lymphocytes, also known as white blood cells or warrior cells, are a type of immune cell that are responsible for fighting infection. They are the most abundant type of white blood cell and are divided into two main types: B-cells and T-cells. B-cells make antibodies that recognize and attack foreign invaders, while T-cells directly attack infected or cancerous cells. Lymphocytes are an important part of the body’s natural defence system, as they play a key role in immunity. In addition to fighting infection, lymphocytes also play a role in allergies and autoimmune diseases. They can also be used to diagnose certain conditions, such as leukemia and lymphoma.
