Ozone layer depletion – ഓസോൺ പാളി ശോഷണം

The ozone layer is a layer of the Earth’s atmosphere composed of ozone gas that is responsible for absorbing a portion of the sun’s ultraviolet radiation. The ozone layer has been thinning due to human activities, such as the release of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) from aerosol cans and refrigerants, as well as industrial emissions. These compounds are broken down in the atmosphere and release chlorine and bromine atoms, which then react with ozone molecules, causing them to break apart and thin the layer. The thinning of the ozone layer has caused increased levels of ultraviolet radiation to reach the Earth’s surface, leading to an increase in skin cancer, cataracts, and other health problems. The Montreal Protocol, an international treaty signed in 1987, has been instrumental in reducing the production and release of ozone-depleting substances.
