Seismographs are instruments that measure and record seismic waves, which are waves of energy that travel through the Earth caused by movements of the Earth’s crust. Seismographs measure the amplitude, frequency and direction of the seismic waves. The data recorded by seismographs is used to study earthquakes, and to monitor large-scale earth movements.
