Cause
Alzheimer’s disease is caused by the build up of abnormal proteins called amyloid beta and tau in the brain. These proteins form clumps called plaques and tangles, which damage nerve cells and lead to cognitive decline.
Symptoms
Common Alzheimer’s symptoms include memory loss, difficulty organizing thoughts and reasoning, language problems, difficulty recognizing familiar faces, confusion about time and place, difficulty completing familiar tasks, problems with visual and spatial skills, changes in mood and personality, and decreased judgment.
