At present ,INDIA has “28 STATES “and”8 UNION TERRITORIES”

STATE UNION TERRITORY
A STATE is an “ADMINISTRATIVE DIVISION” which has its own elected GOVERNMENT A UNION TERRITORY is an “ADMINISTRATIVE UNIT” which is ruled by union [CENTRAL] GOVERNMENT
The HEAD of the state is the “GOVERNOR” of the state The HEAD of the UNION TERRITORY is the “PRESIDENT” of the country
STATES are administrated by “CHIEF MINISTER”,elected by the people UNION TERRITORIES are administrated by “ADMINISTRATOR”,appointed by the “PRESIDENT OF INDIA”
STATES have “FEDARAL RELATIONSHIP”with CENTRAL GOVERNMENT ie,the POWERS are distributed between “state and union”[CENTRAL] UNION TERRITORIES have “UNITARY RELATIONSHIP with CENTRAL GOVERNMENT ie,all the power lies in the hands of UNION [CENTRAL]
The AREA of the STATE is larger compared to the UNION TERRITORY UNION TERRITORY have smaller AREAS
The STATE has the “RIGHT TO FRAMES ITS LAWS” THE UNION TERRITORY’S LAWS are framed by UNION [CENTRAL]GOVERNMENT
