Theophrastus was an ancient Greek philosopher who is often credited as the “Father of Botany”. He is most famous for his contributions to the field of taxonomy, which is the science of classification and categorization of living organisms. He established the concept of scientific classification of plants which is still in use today. He also wrote extensively on the medicinal properties of plants and their uses. He also studied the anatomy and physiology of plants and the effects of the environment on them. His work is still widely studied today and has been essential in the development of modern botany.
