INTRODUCTION
- GALILEO GALILEI is considered as the” father of modern science’,” father of modern physics” , “father of observation Astronomy”
- GALILEO GALILEI was an Italian astronomer ,physicist and engineer
- He invented an improved telescope. With that telescope he observed the moons of Jupiter, Rings of Saturn and the phases of Saturn
HIS LIFE AND CONTRIBUTIONS.
- He found that moon was not smooth as he believed but was rough and tough like earth GALILEO GALILEI was born in Pisa in 1564.
- His father was a well known musician. He decided to make Galileo a Doctor
- In 1581 Galileo was send to “UNIVERSITY OF PISA” to study Medicine.
- While studying at the “UNIVERSITY OF PISA” he discovered that he had a talent for mathematics
- After convincing his father he left the “UNIVERSITY OF PISA” and become a tutor in mathematics
- Later, he became a mathematics Professor .
- In 1609 Galileo heard about a device that made distant objects appear closer by .Using mathematical knowledge and skill he improved the device and built a “TELESCOPE”.
- In 1609 itself, He used the new-built TELESCOPE to look at the Moon. Thus he become to the first person to look at the moon through a TELESCOPE.
- He found that moon was not smooth as he believed but was rough and tough like earth.
- By using the telescope he discovered four moons circling Jupiter, Rings around Saturn, phases of Venus and sun spots on the sun.
- These observations made him convinced in “COPERNICUS THEORY” was that Earth and all other planets revolve around the sun.
- He started publishing paper about his discovery as that” our universe is sun centered’. This publications got a lot of negative opinions because the people at that time believed our universe is Earth centered.
- This publications get the attention of the “CATHOLIC CHURCH”, Rome .He was asked to appear in front of the legal body of catholic church where he was told that he should not publish any such matters.
- But he studied more and more astronomy and become convinced about his theory of sun centered universe
- In 1632 he published a book named” DIALOGUE” about sun centered universe and stated that “COPERNICUS observations were correct”
- In 1633’ he was again called to the “legal body of catholic church” and was sentenced to the life imprisonment.
- Due to his age and poor health the life imprisonment was reduced to house arrest.
- He died in 1642.
- In 1744 Galileo’s book Dialogue was removed from church’s list of banned books.
- In 20th century popes “PIUS 12 and john PAUL 2 “made regret speeches for treating Galileo in such a bad manner by the church.
