Genetically modified animals and crops – ജനിതകമാറ്റം വരുത്തിയ മൃഗങ്ങളും വിളകളും

Genetic modification is the process of altering an organism’s genetic make-up to give it desired characteristics. Genetically modified (GM) animals and crops have been created to promote a variety of traits such as disease resistance, increased yield, improved nutrition, and herbicide tolerance. GM animals are typically created through either the introduction of foreign genes or the deletion or alteration of existing genes. GM crops are created by introducing foreign genes, or by deleting or altering existing genes.
GM animals are used mainly in medical research, to produce pharmaceuticals, and to produce food. They are also used in agriculture to increase the size and yield of crops. GM crops are used mainly to increase crop yields and reduce the amount of pesticide and herbicide used.
Despite their potential benefits, GM animals and crops have raised a number of ethical and environmental concerns. GM animals may suffer from health and welfare issues due to their altered genetic make-up. GM crops can also lead to the contamination of non-GM crops, which may result in the loss of biodiversity. Additionally, the long-term effects of GM crops are yet to be determined.
