A hydraulic jack is a mechanical device used to lift heavy loads or to apply great forces. It uses the hydraulic equivalent of a mechanical lever, and was also known as a hydrostatic jack. It is used for car jacks, but also for other purposes such as lifting heavy machinery or lifting and moving heavy objects in construction and engineering works.
