The medulla oblongata is a part of the brain stem that plays an important role in the regulation of autonomic functions such as breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, and digestion. It also serves as a connection between the brain and spinal cord. The medulla oblongata is located in the lower part of the brainstem, just above the spinal cord.
