Organic compounds are any chemical compounds that contain carbon atoms. This includes a wide range of molecules, from compounds found in living organisms (such as proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids) to compounds found in synthetic materials (such as plastics, dyes, and pharmaceuticals). Organic compounds can also be divided into two categories: natural and synthetic.
