How to protect ourselves when there is a lightning
- Stay indoors and away from windows, doors, and porches during a thunderstorm.
- Unplug all electronics and turn off or unplug any appliances.
- Avoid contact with concrete walls or floors, and metal objects such as pipes, sinks, and radiators during a storm.
- If you are outside, do not stand near a tall tree, tall building, or any other tall object.
- If you are in a car, stay in the car and keep the windows closed.
- If you are in a boat, get to shore as quickly as possible.
- If you are swimming or playing in the water, get out of the water immediately.
- Avoid using the telephone, except in an emergency.
- Avoid taking a shower or bath during a thunderstorm.
- Wear rubber-soled shoes when outside during a storm.
