Refining of metals is the process of purifying a metal by removing impurities from it. This is done by either electrolytic, chemical, or thermal processes. The primary purpose of refining is to produce a metal with greater purity or to produce a more uniform alloy. Refining can also be used to separate metals from their ore or to produce a pure metal from a mixture of metals.
