Thermoplastic and thermosetting plastic are two types of plastic materials.
Thermoplastics are plastic materials that become soft and pliable when heated and harden when cooled. This process can be repeated multiple times, allowing them to be melted, molded and reshaped. Common thermoplastics include polyethylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polypropylene and polycarbonate.
Thermosetting plastics, on the other hand, are materials that harden when heated, but cannot be re melted or reshaped after curing. This process is irreversible and the chemical structure of the plastic is permanently altered. Common thermosetting plastics include phenolics, epoxies, polyesters, polyurethanes and silicones.
Thermoplastic uses.
Polythene
Polythene is most commonly used as a packaging material, either as a bag or film. It is also used to make items such as bottles, containers, and trays. Polythene is also used in agriculture, such as to cover soil, as a mulch to help retain moisture, and to provide a barrier against weeds. It is also used in construction to make waterproof membranes, and to line roofs.
PVC (Poly vinyl chloride)
PVC is used in a variety of applications, such as pipes and fittings, window frames and siding, flooring and roofing, wire and cable insulation, and medical devices. PVC is a versatile material, which allows it to be used in many different applications.
Thermosetting plastic uses
Bakelite
Bakelite is a very strong, durable, and versatile material that can be used for a variety of applications. It has been used in the manufacture of electrical components, radio and television cabinets, telephones, jewelry, kitchenware, combs, and toys. It was also used as an insulating material in the construction of aircraft, ships, and automobile engines. Bakelite is also used in the manufacture of some medical devices and as a binding agent in some cosmetics.
Melamine
Melamine is a widely used material in many products. It is used in food-contact materials such as plates, bowls, and utensils, as well as non-food items such as countertops, cabinets, and other furniture. It is used in the production of fabrics, paper, and insulation materials, as well as adhesives, paint, and coatings. In addition, melamine is used in the production of melamine foam, which is used as an acoustic and thermal insulation material. It is also used in the production of molded products such as toys, kitchenware, and bathroom accessories.
