AYILLYATH KUTTIARI GOPALAN popularly known as A.K.G was an ‘Indian Communist Leader”
A.K.G Played an important role in the formation of “INDIAN COFFEE HOUSE” in 1950’s
His Autobiography ‘ ENTE JEEVITHA KADHA”HAS BEEN TRANSLATED INTO MANY LANGUAGES.
“SHORT SUMMERY OF HIS LIFE”
A.K.G was born on 1st OCTOBER, 1904 in PERALASSERI,KANNUR,KERALA.
After his Education in BRENNEN COLLEGE,THALASSERY, he become a TEACHER.
Inspired by MAHATMA GANDHIJI’S freedom movements, he resigned his job to become a full time social worker.
In 1927,he joined the “INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS” and become active in “KHADI MOVEMENT” and “UPLIFTMENT OF HARIJANS”.
In 1930,He was arrested for participating in the “SALT SATYAGRAHA”.
While he was in prison, he got inspired to COMMUNIST and become a member of “CONGRESS SOCIALIST PARTY”
CONGRESS SOCIALIST PARTY later changed its name to “COMMUNIST PARTY OF INDIA[CPI]”in 1939,in Kerala.
In 1936,he led the “HUNGER MARCH” from “MALABAR TO MADRAS”
In 1939, he was again arrested but he escaped from the prison in 1942.
He was able to hide from the police for 3 years, but in 1945, he was arrested again.
When INDIA become independent on”15TH AUGUST 1947″he was in jail.
After a few weeks he was released.
Regarding some issued based on the conflicts of INDO-CHINA WAR IN 1962,COMMUNIST PARTY members split into “left and right groups”.
The left group including A.K.G formed a new party “COMMUNIST PARTY OF INDIA [MARXIST]”
He was a “member of LOK SABHA” for 5 continuous terms till 1977.
He died on 22nd march 1977.
