INTRODUCTION
- LAKE VICTORIA is the “worlds largest tropical lake” and the “second largest freshwater lake” after “LAKE BAIKAL”
- LAKE VICTORIA borders UGANDA,KENYA and TANZANIA.
- BRITISH explorer “JOHN HANNING SPEKE”was the first European to find this lake in 1850 .He decided to name the LAKE as LAKE VICTORY in dedication to the QUEEN OF ENGLAND at that time “QUEEN VICTORIA”
- LAKE VICTORIA covers an area of about 26,600 square miles and contains around 1,000 small and large islands.
- LAKE VICTORIA has more than 200 species of fish
- This lake receives 80%of its water from direct rain fall.The “KAGERA RIVER”IS THE LARGEST RIVER FLOWING INTO THIS LAKE.
