ABRAHAM LINCOLN was the sixteenth president of UNITED STATES.
He is famous for leading the country during the AMERICAN CIVIL WAR .
He always worked for the freedom of all slaves through out the Nation .
He is known as the united states” martyr hero” and is ranked as the “GREATEST U.S PRESIDENT “
A WALK THROUGH HIS LIFE
ABRAHAM LINCOLN was born in Kentucky, UNITED STATES .
His parents were NANCY HANKS LINCOLN AND THOMAS LINCOLN.
When he was young his family moved to INDIANA
At the age of nine he lost his mother .After that his sister “SARAH” took care of him until his father married “SALLY BUSH JOHSTON”
All though he had very little formal education “SALLY BUSH” encouraged him to read a lot of books, most of what he learned was from the books he read.
Later his family move to “ILLINOIS”
As a young man ,LINCOLN worked as a shopkeeper, surveyor, post master, split firewood with an axe for his living.
He moved into politics and at the age of 25, He won a seat in “ILLINOIS LEGISLATURE”.
During this time, He studied the LAW and began to week as a “LAWYER”.
He won the election in 1845 and served as a congressman for one term.
Later he participate for the U.S SENATE. He was then the member of a new party “REPUBLICAN PARTY”.Republican party strongly opposed slavery.
He won the 1860 Election and become the 16th “AMERICAN PRESIDENT” in MARCH of 1861.
THE CIVIL WAR
The “Southern state” did not want Lincoln as the president. Before he took change as president they began to leave the country. The first state to leave was SOUTH CALIFORNIA.
Soon after south Carolina left, six more states decided to join them and they formed as a new country called the “CONFEDERACY”
THE CIVIL WAR Began on April 12,1861 Just a month after LINCOLN became the president.
He wanted the unity of all States. He called for an Army from Northern states to defeat the Southern states.
This war known as “CIVIL WAR” lasted for four years taking the lives of 6,00,000 AMERICANS.
Though LINCOLN faced a lot of oppositions during the war, he managed to hold the Country together.
ON JANUARY 1, 1863 he issued the”EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION”.
“EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION” is an order to provide freedomto slaves in the newly formed Country CONFEDERACY.
Though all the slaves were not immediately set free,this order leads a way to “AMENDMENT 13”
“AMENDMENT 13” abolishes slavery and free all slaves in the United states a few years later.
The CIVIL WAR ended on APRIL 9, 1865.
LINCOLN deeply wanted to help southern states torebuilt their states
But he was shot by “JOHN WILKES BOOTH” while attending a play at a theater in Washington D.C on APRIL 14,1865.
He died next day on APRIL 15, 1865.
