Horse latitude – കുതിര അക്ഷാംശം

Horse latitude is a term used to describe the subtropical latitudes of the Earth between 30 and 35 degrees north and south of the equator. This region is known for its high pressure systems, light winds, and lack of precipitation, leading to an arid climate. The term is said to have originated from the time of sailing ships, when sailors would become becalmed in these areas and be unable to make progress. To conserve supplies, horses and other livestock were sometimes released overboard, leading to the term horse latitude.
