INDIRA GANDHI was the only child of “JAWAHARLAL NEHRU and KAMALA NEHRU”.
SHE WAS BORN ON 9th November 1917 in ALLAHABAD INDIA.
During his childhood, she attended SWISS BOARDING SCHOOL and later studied history at OXFORD.
IN 1936,her MOTHER “KAMALA NEHRU” passed away of TUBERCULOSIS.
IN 1942,with out considering the objection of her family, she married” FEROZE GANDHI”.FEROZE GANDHI was a PARSI LAWYER.
IN 1947, JAWAHARLAL NEHRU became INDIA’S FIRST PRIME MINISTER.INDIRA GANDHI moved to DELHI to help her father.
TO POLITICS
IN 1955,She joined the “CONGRESS PARTY’S WORKING COMMITTEE”.
IN 1959,She was elected as the “PRESIDENT OF CONGRESS PARTY”.
IN 1964,after the death of “JAWAHARLAL NEHRU”, “LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI”become the new PRIME MINISTER.INDIRA GANDHI was elected as the “MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING”.
IN 1966,after the death of “LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI” INDIRA GANDHI was appointed as the “PRIME MINISTER”
She become famous among the people for introducing new programs that improved the live style of farmers.This revaluation is known as “GREEN REVALUATION”.
In 1971,she supported the Bengali movement to separate EAST FROM WEST PAKISTAN and provided shelter to ten million Pakistani peoples in INDIA.
This led to war between INDIA and PAKISTAN following INDIA’S victory over PAKISTHAN, she Invited PAKISTANI PRESIDENT ZULFIKAR ALI BHUTTO to SIMLA for discussion.
The two leaders signed the “SIMLA AGREEMENT Which led to the formation of BANGLADESH.
In 1975,the “ALLAHABAD HIGH COURT”found out that she misused government resources for party purposes,used excess money for election purposes etc.
Instead of resigning,she declared a “STATE OF EMERGENCY ” and imprisoned thousands of peoples.
In 1977,after 21 months of “STATE OF EMERGENCY”She cancelled the EMERGENCY and called for next general election.
But the people voted in favour of JANATHA PARTY and “MORAJI DESAI”become the “PRIME MINISTER.
IN 1980,she campaigned under a new party “CONGRESS (I)”and was elected again as “PRIME MINISTER”
In 1980,her younger son “SANJAY GANDHI”who had been serving as her political advisor died in a plane crash in NEW DELHI.
After the death of “SANJAY GANDHI”She started preparing her other son “RAJIV GANDHI”for leadership.
In 1984,the golden temple in Ameristar,Punjab was taken over by SIKH COMMUNITY.In response, she sent INDIAN TROOPS to GOLDEN TEMPLE TO take sack the authority.
This resulted in gun fire and hundreds of Sikhs were killed.
On October 31,1984,she was shot and killed by two of her body guards who were Sikhs.They killed her in order to revenge against the deaths of Sikhs in GOLDEN TEMPLE.
