The trade winds are a global pattern of prevailing easterly surface winds that blow from the subtropical high-pressure areas near the horse latitudes towards the equator. These winds are the result of both the temperature difference between the equator and the poles, as well as the rotation of the Earth. The trade winds are responsible for the transport of warm air and moisture from the tropics to the mid-latitudes, and are integral to the global atmospheric circulation.
