  • VICTOR MARIE HUGO was a FRENCH poet and Novelist.
  • He is best known for his works “THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME” and “LES MISERABLES”
  • He is considered as one of the greatest and best known FRENCH WRITERS.

A WALK THROUGH HIS LIFE

  • VICTOR MARIE HUGO was born in BESANCON,FRANCE on 26th FEBRUARY 1802.
  • His father “JOSEPH LEOPOLD HUGO”WAS A MILITARY OFFICER WHO LATER SERVED AS A GENERAL UNDER NAPOLEON.His mother’s name was SOPHIE.
  • Though he studied LAW he never practiced as an Advocate.By his mother’s Encouragement,he started a career in literature.
  • In 1821,his mother died.
  • In 1821,he married his childhood friend ADELE FOUCHER and published his first POETRY BOOK.
  • In 1823,he published one of his all time famous book “THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME”
  • During 1840’s,he became one of the most celebrated writers in FRANCE.
  • In 1841,he was elected to the FRENCH ACADEMY.
  • In 1843,he lost his daughter and son-in-low in an accident.after this tragedy,he did not concentrate on writing.
  • In 1851,he moved to BRUSSELS.and IN 1862,his novel”LES MISERABLES”was published.
  • “LES MISERABLES”is still considered as one of the greatest book of all time.
  • He returned back to FRANCE in 1870.
  • His later works were based on themes of GOD,SATAN AND DEATH.
  • He died on 22nd may,1885 in PARIS.
  • The street on which lived was later re-named as “AVENUE VICTOR HUGO”
