നദികൾ മലിനമാകുന്നത് മനുഷ്യന്‍റെ ഇടപെടൽ മൂലമാണ്. ഒരു ജലസ്രോതസും മലിനമായി ഉത്ഭഭവിക്കുന്നില്ല. മനുഷ്യന്‍റെ കരസ്പർശത്തിലൂടെ മാത്രമാണ് ജലം മലിനമാകുന്നത്. കുളം, തടാകം, നദി, കായൽ,കടൽ ഭൂഗർഭ ജല സ്രോതസ്സുകൾ പോലുള്ള ജലാശയങ്ങൾ മലിനമാകുന്നത്തിലൂടെ ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന പരിസ്ഥിതി മലിനീകരണമാണ് “ജലമലിനീകരണം”. പൊതുവെ ജലമലിനീകരണം ഉണ്ടാകാനുള്ള കാരണം മനുഷ്യൻ അപകടകരമായ മാലിന്യങ്ങൾ നേരിട്ടോ അല്ലാതെയോ ജലാശയത്തിലേക്കു കലർത്തുമ്പോഴാണ്. കാർബണികമോ കാര്‍ബണികമാല്ലാത്തതോ ആയ പദാർഥങ്ങൾ ജല മലിനീകരണത്തിന് കാരണമാകുന്നുണ്ട്. ഇങ്ങനെ ജലം മലിനമാകുന്നത് നമ്മുടെ ആരോഗ്യത്തെ അപകടത്തിലാക്കുന്നു. ഫാക്‌ടറികൾ, ഫാമുകൾ, പട്ടണങ്ങൾ …
എന്താണ് വനനശീകരണം? മനുഷ്യരുടെ കൈകളിലുള്ള ഭൂമിയില്‍ നിന്നും അതിലെ മരങ്ങള്‍ നഷ്ട്ടപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന പ്രക്രിയയാണ്‌ വനനശീകരണം എന്ന് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഭൂമിയില്‍ കരഭാഗത്തിന്‍റെ 30% ശതമാനത്തോളം കാടുകളാണ്.ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതല്‍ വനനശീകരണം നടക്കുന്നത് ഉഷ്ണമേഘലാ മഴക്കാടുകളിലാണ്‌. വനനശീകരണം എന്നാല്‍ കാടില്ലാതാക്കി ഭൂമിയില്‍ സ്വന്തം ആവശ്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കായി ഉപയോഗിക്കാന്‍ വേണ്ടിയാണ്. ഇങ്ങനെ മരങ്ങള്‍ വെട്ടി നശിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഭൂമി കൃഷിയുടെ ആവശ്യത്തിനായി എടുത്താലും മേച്ചില്‍ സ്ഥലമായി ഉപയോഗിച്ചാലും അതെല്ലാം വനനശീകരണത്തിന്‍റെ ഉദാഹരണങ്ങളാണ്. അതിവേഗം കാടില്ലാതാക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില്‍ ഇന്ത്യയുമുണ്ട്. വനനശീകരനത്തിനു പിന്നില്‍ മനുഷ്യർ അവരുടെ …
